WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg published some impressive platform statistics earlier this week that show the content management system’s continued phenomenal growth this year. WordPress now powers 14.7% of the top million websites, up from 8.5% one year ago, and perhaps more interestingly, 22% of all new active domains in the US run WordPress.
Last month it was revealed that WordPress.com had passed the 50 million websites mark, and that each month 287 million visitors account for 2.5 billion pageviews on the network.
Mullenweg also published a subset of results from a user and developer survey conducted by WordPress and answered by 18,000 users across the world. 6,800 self-employed respondents administer over 170,000 WordPress sites, or an average of 25 WordPress sites each, and charged an average hourly rate of $50.
