Miramax is the latest film studio to announce streaming agreements with on-demand movie service Netflix ahead of their launch in the United Kingdom and Ireland early next year. Since October, Netflix has announced content agreements with MGM and Lionsgate in the two countries.
Today’s announcement is described as a “multi-year digital licensing agreement” that includes popular titles such as Pulp Fiction, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and The English Patient. Miramax titles are presently available to Netflix users in the United States and Latin America.
Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos commented,
“Netflix is proud to be able to offer the unmatched mix of award-winning, independent and commercially successful films Miramax is known for.
“Miramax films are already favorites of Netflix members in the U.S. and Latin America and we’re sure they’ll be incredibly popular in the UK and Ireland as well.”
The financial arrangements of the deal have not been disclosed.
With this latest announcement, Netflix’s launch in the UK and Ireland is really taking shape.
